November 14, 2011 (JUBA) — Louis Lobong, the Governor of Eastern Equatoria, has sacked the Magwi county, in the wake of continuous clashes between the Madi and Acholi communities over land.
The decree relieving Peter Bongomin of his duties, after over two years of active service, was issued over the weekend, with no mention of his successor.
Lobong, Radio Emmanel reported, thanked the outgoing commissioner for dedicated services and commitment to the people, but fell short of explaining why the latter was removed.
Last month, clashes between the two neighbouring communities in Magwi county left at least five people dead and dozens injured. The Madi largely blamed Bongomin for his alleged failure to control the situation, and petitioned the Governor.
“We, the people of Magwi, strongly believe that this decree was issued after the Madi community petitioned the governor and called for the removal of our commissioner. The matter should have been investigated first,” Yona Olum, a community elder told Sudan Tribune by phone on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Bongomin declined to comment over his sacking when contacted on Monday, saying all inquiries should be directed to the Governor.
“Don’t ask me about what happened. It’s the appointing authority who can best explain what is within the decree he issued,” said Bongomin.

I do not want to assume that Mr. commissioner Peter Bongomin failed or did not fail to control the dispute between communities of Eastern Equatoria State. What I think should have happened as one of the elders said is to investigate the incident. And the best way it should have went is to send Peter Bongomin on administrative leave.

Sacking of Peter Bongomin is administrative.Lobong has the powers and rights to do that as we gave him the mandates.But fellow brothers stop commenting on tribal lines.This is very bad.There is no tribe in South Sudan who is not civilized.

Time for accountability. Leaders who can’t control and reconcile their people need to make way. The commissioner may be innocent, but a sign of failure is evident.
If the problem continues, then the governor may also be called to account.

The commissioner orchestrated the killing of his own civil servants from Madi in cold blood. He is not only to be sacked but brought to books with his accomplices of Acholi Panyikwara and JJ Johnson. The commissioner tried to send out the Uganda military in the area by alleging that they were logging illegally, just a way of ordering them out of the area so that LRA would come back to Madi area. There are allegations that, the commissioner and JJ okot have also made deals with the Acholi of Uganda to come and settle in Madi area.
