S. Sudan, Rumbek football tournament
November 21, 2011 (RUMBEK) – The Young Stars football club defeated Goozaga in the Lakes state Governor Cup Tournament which began on 17 November.
The final score was, Young Stars – Goozaga 0
The Governor Tournament is being organised by the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sport in Rumbek, the capital of Lakes state.
In the tournament, 16 teams will compete to play in the final on 26 December. All teams will be hosted by the governor of the state, Chol tong Mayay for Christmas dinner.
The director general of the ministry of information, culture, youth and sport, Madong William, said the tournament was organised in order to fulfil “the promises made by his Excellency, the governor, during his campaign for election; to promote all the youth activities.”
William also cited the need to mark Christmas and the end of the year, and the need for matches in light of the heavy rains which have plagued the football season.
The Lakes state minister of information, communication, culture, youth and sport, Marik Nanga Marik, who presided over the tournament, said its purpose was to create a peaceful environment for the youth to communicate within.
He appealed to the Lakes state youth to stop drinking excessive amounts and to take part in sports activities.

Wow! I can see a lot of development in South Sudan. What a wonderful thing to hear of governor’s tournament in Lakes State-Rumbek. I am glad that there is peace in Lakes and youth turn to dig out their talents. This is what all the South Sudanese need and should all work to do such a joyful things to recognize ourselves in day today lives in order to build peace among ourselves.
