Accompanied by Helen Lewis, an officer of the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), McPhail spoke to press after his meeting with the state governor, Kuol Manyang.

He explained the UK will be spending US$150 million in bilateral programmes in South Sudan in 2011.

According to McPhail, the visit to Jonglei is one of many trips planned to South Sudan’s states to see what is happening on the ground “so that our people back home in UK understand better the challenges which are faced by the new born country.”

Governor of Jonglei state, Kuol Manyang expressed his gratitude to UK for the deals the British government has pledged.

Manyang said his government has briefed McPhail about socio-economic development, security and physical infrastructure challenges faced by the state.

“We are hopping and looking forward to get support from Great Britain in these fields”, said Manyang.

He said the state is rich in resources, calling upon the international investors to come forward and invest in Jonglei and help to build the state.

A team of investors came from the UK recently and met McPhail in Bor, the Jonglei state capital. They expressed particular interest in the agriculture sector. The team met with the deputy governor Hussein Maar Nyuot, the state minister for agriculture and others.

Manyang also acknowledged the arrival in Jonglei of a team of potential Chinese investors on 24 November.

“We want to co-operate with our investors. We shall market the resources we have to them and they in turn help us to build roads. Nothing is free”, said Manyang.

Dear governor of our beloved state, Hon. Kuol Manyang Juuk,
Investors are different from humanitarian aid agencies therefore the security should be upto date more effective & leave the business of being reluctant in the office.

With sharp & serrated teeth & pockets in RoSS, I wonder if that donation will land in safe hands. I mean, we made corruption to be our culture & tradition yet it is not.

@ Kuol must go,he has failed to address insecurity and corruption problem in jonglei. investment can not happen where there is reasonable security. security is the best requirement for development.

The S. Sudan Government must take care of British Politics, I am very sure there is no relationship between S. Sudanese and UK Government if you analyse political agenda carefully. The ambassador mission is to explore the country so that he can find the weakness that he will report to his country. The UK is not happy about this independent because of the olden days issues.
