November 28, 2011 (AWEIL) – Youth from the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region on Sunday resolved to form a transitional executive committee, a body comprising of 15 members who will be tasked with developing the union’s transitional constitution and its strategic plans.

The resolution was the result of a four-day youth strategy and planning convention that was held in Aweil, the Northern Bahr el Ghazal state capital. The conference brought together about 150 delegates from South Sudan’s states of Warrap, Lakes, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Western Bahr el Ghazal.

A transitional council, comprising of 41 members, with 10 earmarked from each of the four states was also agreed upon, while Northern Bahr el Ghazal will have one additional slot.

Arthur Angok Akuein, the newly confirmed chairperson of the initiative attributed the success of the four-day convention to the spirit of unity demonstrated by youth from the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region.

“The courage and determination show at the just concluded strategy and planning workshop is a clear indication that today’s youth fully understand their challenges and are ready to address them through team work,” Akuein told Sudan Tribune in Aweil.

Earlier on, the atmosphere at the conference venue remained tense as armed Policemen occasionally patrolled the area to stop a group of youth who tried to protest against the conference.

The protestors said to be from the youth league of the south-ruling party – the SPLM – claimed the organizers of the conference had no clear objective and that their consultations were reportedly selectively carried out.

Reacting to the protests, Akuien said, “As a non-partisan youth initiative, we would like to condemn the acts of these enemies intending to disrupt our peaceful conference,” and assured the visiting delegates of adequate security provision.

LAWMAKERS SPEAK OUT

Ariec Mayar Ariec, a Warrap state lawmaker who attended the convention said such gatherings provide important platforms for the youth to express their fundamental and democratic rights in society.

“The youth resolved to go and mobilise their communities to reduce conflicts and we hope this resolution will help in controlling the rampant problems we have been experiencing in past years,” he said.

Angellina Mario, a legislator who had formerly served in the Lakes state parliament lauded the organisers of the youth convention, saying time was ripe for the youth to find their place in nation-building roles.

The convention attracted youth from various political parties, non-governmental organisations, students and members of the South Sudanese Diaspora.

Here we go again! The chair person has a middle and last names similar to the names of the first South Sudan Finance Minister who embezzled almost $50 millions. Perhaps they are related somehow and that should have raised a red flag to those who elected him. I guess these people are probing to be who exactly I thought they were. Carry on!

    Dear Reeaders,

I,m really impressed to see the closure of the conference in a peaceful manner despite the fact that Adam Garang Wol,s sobatage during the time of conference.

Furthermore, Angok Arthur Akuien has tried his best to make the conference ended successfully even thought there were some youth with naked and dirty politics who likely to erupted the meeting.
    Garang Wol has no capacit

Very shollow-minded person. He called his subjects “enemies.” You can only see corruption in the way his lip and head are designed.

    Dear readers
This conference wasn’t for the youth’s of greater Bhar el gazal in general , it was meant for those who were brought up with stolen money like son of former minister of finance and others corruptists who were removed from their positions. They wanted to create a problem in order to get positions in ROSS like ongoing rebels confusion in unity and upper Nile states.

    Brothers,

You are right, those he called enemies are the ones he is supposed to mobilize to join the union. From that can you believe he could lead. All the potential youth who were the success of the election of 2010 and the referendum of 2011 were left out. This will not succeed, I was in the conference but the way the objectives were presented, this is totally against the government of S.S.

    Dear Readers.

Someone who keeps records of corruptist, can not justify or swear that he has not been a thief in one day one time.

A thief is thief even if you had stolen one coin, mind yourself that you were a thief somewhere in the past.

Agok is my leader even if you alleged that his father stolen money and send him to school.

You will call[bany]leader, you like it or not .

Well, noone suggested Kuac he’s not your leader since it is your nature you can’t survive without a thief leading you. Ours are just comments, we are not taking him away from you. What we just say was such leaders can’t lead in greater Equatoria or Greater Upper Nile. That’s all we have said. Take it easy dude.
