In her speech, Onyango said her commission had conducted a voluntary counselling and testing exercise in eight counties in the state this year in which out of 9,823 people that accessed the services, 182 were found to be HIV positive; 102 female and 82 male.

She said the commission targeted commercial sex workers, boda-boda (motorbike taxi) riders and prisoners.

At least 82 infected people are receiving retroviral drugs at Bor civil hospital according to Onyango.

Onyango urged the people of Jonglei to take the lead in fighting against the killer disease.

Ayom Deng Ajang, an ex-soldier from the South Sudan army, told the assembled that he is HIV positive and urged citizens to go for a test, including couples planning to marry.

Deng stated that the victims in the state have formed an association, “Bridge of Hope” to advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness in the state.

Jonglei deputy governor, Hussein Maar Nyuot, appreciated the courageous efforts of people living HIV/AIDS in the state in taking the lead in raising awareness in the towns and the villages.

“I appreciate Ayom Deng for making his status public”, said Nyuot

    Alier42,

We should not cry of the neigboring countries, that is not the best way of fighting the virus, the sex workers are already there including our people

Indeed we need to only educate them about the virus, Ways protection or abstance completely from sex life as the President put it
