World Health Organization to build maternity ward in Jonglei, S. Sudan

December 5, 2011 (KAMPALA) -The World Health Organization (WHO) will soon begin construction of a maternity wards in Jonglei Bor civil hospital in South Sudan.

A US$1.2 million project funded by Canada International Development Agency (CIDA) aims to reduce mortality and infancy death rates in Jonglei according to Abdi Aden Mohamed, the head of South Sudan WHO office during the opening of the state ministry of health headquarters in Bor on 24 November.

Mohamed said the ward will be equipped with necessary medical equipment and relevant drugs by WHO.

The company contracted to carry out the project were due to begin on 25 November, but there have been delays.

A midwife, obstetrician and paediatrician have been brought by WHO to work in Bor civil hospital with their counterparts to improve medical services in the state Mohamed told Sudan Tribune.

The state director general in the ministry of health appluaded the development saying “we shall have a good referral hospital by 2012.”

The state governor who was present at the opening ceremony said “the physical [war] is over but the war of development has started,” asking citizens to contribute money to renovation of the hospital.

    Great job dear friends, this initiative will surely help our mothers and babies.

    To our governor Gen. Kuol, please you need to put more efford toward that system of contribution specially among Bor community. That move if well understood will develop our community if well managed.

    Good move by “WHO” but if it is build and we don’t have qualified midwives in our state hospital,or will we continue with those pretending to be midwives but in really scense they should be trandition birth attendance(TBAs)who should work in the community.i was shock recentilly by the death of mother, due to poor management during labour and death of children during delivery.

    The same man at the time last year promised the same project in Unity State and never materialised I am afraid the same may happened God prohibit!
