SPLM in Unity state still trying to reunite after divisive 2010 elections

December 12, 2011 (BENTIU) – South Sudan’s ruling party is attempting to reunite its members in Unity state, which has experienced rebellions and political infighting since contested election results last year.

The acting chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Samuel Lony Geng, held a meeting with the Rubkotna women Leagues on Monday try and restore party unity among its membership in Rubkotna County. He urged the party members to act in interests of citizens.

He acknowledged the “division” caused by the “election grievances” between the SPLM and those who supported Angelina Teny who ran an independent candidate after she was not endorsed by the SPLM.

Teny, the wife of South Sudan’s vice president Riek Machar, contested the results claiming they had been rigged in favour of incumbent Taban Deng Gai. Deng’s re-election triggered an insurgency by Gatluak Gai, who was killed in July this year after signing a ceasefire with the SPLA.

A separate rebellion by the South Sudan Liberation Army (SSLA) is active in Rubkotna county. The SSLA is made up of rebels, who at various points have fought with or under the command of Peter Gadet, who in August signed a peace deal with the SPLA.

Lony encouraged all party members regardless of who they supported “to re-united and focus on the goal of the struggle”. Since the April 2010 elections South Sudan has become an independent country after the region voted for independence as part of a 2005 peace deal between north and South Sudan.

He called on the Rubkotna SPLM women’s league to promote party activities at the grass roots.

Nyachar Nhial Gai, of the SPLM women leagues in Rubkotna, said that the meeting was to discuss deliver services to all civilians in Unity state.

“Our main objectives as SPLM are to fight for the right of the citizens of South Sudanese people. Today we need to clearly state [these aims to our colleagues from [the] SPLM party, particularly those who have left us from the party.”

She urged those who had left the SPLM after the 2010 elections to “join hands with us”.

I want Unity State citizens to support SPLM/A regardless of many being absence for awhile. Nothing these rebellions will give to many of you but death like what happened to Galuak Gai who escalate the rebellions which wound him and finally cause his death. See guys! this is a pity situation that you should stay away. Thanks

Anglina was only supported because she is reik wife..The God of Nuers….This is why she was support, Nuers tried to elect somebody that would implement their selfishness… Clearly, we will not allow Reik Machar family to target anybody in ROSS..They need to run their own home first. The man is too negative, just translate his name, you will see how negative his name is.

I have agreed with BIG bro Waucity that all the problems facing ROSS were /are caused by Riak,s family. The first failure of SPLA/M to capture the whole country was brought by Riak $ the widespread rebellions across the nation today is a responsibity of Anglina ,the wife of Riak.they are power thirsty who can,t sleep outside of power,s house. As thier power struggl destroyed us several times ,

Lony Geng, you shut up muslim boy known as Abdalah Ali, a pure son of an Arab. Look you donkey, you sold your real wife in order to be appointed a minister by your other Arab Taban Deng previously known as Mohammed Hussein and fucked your wife in the face of everybody.
She is now in the company of my boys because Mohammed Hussein is no longer energetic for age factor.
    Lony you will be killed!

Ok you know that Riek remains popular even his wife remains popular. This is because Riek does not stael public resources like your greedymen/.
You stupid why are you generalizing Nuers yet the SPLA General chief of Staff is a Nuer and the minister as well. Because Nuer are brave they constitute 60% of SPLA and they are not selfish

SPLM Chairman Salva Kiir is the one who creates the whole mess in Unity State with intention to engage citizens in conflict with his son Taban Deng. This is one way to steal the state resources such as the oil revenue and the same grant from the national government. The second reason is to weaken the position of Dr. Riek in his own state in case he would contest and also keep Nuers engage in wars
