Unity State declares war with Bentui criminal gangs
December 22, 2011 (BENTIU) – Over hundreds of criminal gangs captured by South Sudanese Polices services in Unity State on Wednesday in the state capital Bentiu. The government officials confirmed their ages is around 16-18 year old that involved at wrong behaviors. During the crackdown about 20 of them identify are both from polices services and SPLA soldiers.
On Tuesday the gang groups declared a statement by posting on the electricity poles “Christmas of this year shall not be done peacefully”. On Wednesday and Thursday following their threats state polices turnout to crack down all groups from both Rubkotna and Bentiu.
Brigadier General Juol BudBud the deputy chief of police commissioner of Unity has confirmed that criminals threaten civilians before the day of Christmas, that they will destabilize Christians matching in the town. He added that we as a polices have decided to launch curfew on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and managed to capture the notorious boys.
“We have captured 174 young men, mostly youths roaming within the market, a lot of them are found in hidden video sexual show, other are found drinking bars, other at place of tea and finally some are found at gambling Centre, all of them collected and when we investigate them they have confirm to have peace, but I have told them, will never have peace with you until you respect the law and order”, said Budbud.
Budbud urged all parents to advice their children not to violate the law of South Sudan. He added we will continue doing the exercise until these wrong group give up. He also warned the police if one found again in doing these will be dismissed and shall be sentence to prison for life.
Peter Dak Khan MP from Unity State assembly has confirmed last week the State Ministry of Local government and Law enforcement has summoned the activities done by the gangs within the town as a big threats to the communities living around. Khan added that we have passed the law that polices should intervene through crackdown if there are other who are against the right of other people.
“It is true that Youths change from generation to generation but it is right to behave the way they want, but it is not good to violate the right of the others, what we heard and we have also witness some case is that some Youths are carrying harmful weapons panga, pistols and other weapons during deliberation we condemned and up to now Youth should not carry harmful weapons and Youth should not encourage violent among themselves”, said Khan.
Many MPs are seriously condemning the gangs’ activities within Bentiu town, where earlier this month two people were killed by such criminal gangs. Hon Simon Gatluak Pech Dak a Member of Parliament reacted seriously that polices had to go ahead with law enforcement and order by cracking down all those who misbehave among the civilians.
Dak condemned gangs behavior in term of involved in girls rape around the town. He described the criminal gangs’ activities as law breaker and must answerable with justice.
The groups have been alleged by everybody living in Unity State as the worse kind of gangs that move with panga, pistols, and knifes and sometime break people house taking properties.
There are estimate of thousands criminal gangs who currently doing the networking, sometimes organizing disco by making contribution through collection of money.
Two day a go before the polices crack them down they declare a war that “this year we don’t want anybody to enjoy Christmas festival but only ourselves alone”.
