South Sudan army deserter arrested in Rumbek on charge of killing businessman

February 1, 2012 (BOR) – Authorities in Lakes State have captured a South Sudanese army deserter suspected of killing a Ugandan businessman in the state’s capital, Rumbek, on Wednesday.

The soldier, Pabek Mackuac, was a member of division five in the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) Abyei unit.

Rumbek central county commissioner, Matur Majok Magol said Mackuac is responsible for the death of a Ugandan businessman identified as “Francis” at 5.30am on Wednesday.

According to Rumbek Central Criminal Investigation Department, Pabek was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the crime.

Magol said Padek demanded money from Francis, who responded by offering him a cheque, but Padek rejected the offer and killed Francis.
