Fear of torture for detained youths
Tahir Bedreldin and 10 other youths were detained in Omdurman on the evening of
Friday 27 January 2012. It is said that they belong to the Youth movements of Girifna
and Youth for Change. Those detained reportedly included Ammar Dirar, Ghazi
Eltayeb, Nagi Musa, Mohammed Mahgoub and Sherif Kamal.
All the detainees were transferred to the premises of the political section of the
National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) in Khartoum North. They were
arrested while holding a meeting between Girifna and Youth for Change.
The families of the detainees gathered in front of the security information office,
asking about the conditions of their sons. Hayat Al-Sudan Ibrahim, the mother of
Nagi Musa, said that the security have told them that they will be told about their
sons’ conditions after fifteen days. There are great fears that the detainees will be
tortured.
SUDO (UK) is calling for their immediate and unconditional release.
Human rights defender Bushra Gamar Hussein
Bushra Gamar Hussein was transferred from detention by the NISS to the Attorney
of the Crimes against the State on Thursday 26 January 2012 and the NISS denied
access to his lawyers saying he was being investigated. His lawyers filed an
application to see him today but it was overturned by the prosecutor saying he is still
under investigation, his lawyers are planning to put another application on
Wednesday 1 February 2012.
Bushra Gamar Hussein Rahma, is a human rights defender from South Kordofan
detained without charge since June 2011. SUDO(UK) is calling for his immediate and
unconditional release.
Civilians displaced from South Kordofan during 28 January SPLM-North attack
Several thousand civilians have reportedly been displaced following the recent attack
of SPLM-N on Al-Magrah, between Al-Abbasiya and Rashad in South Kordofan on
28 January 2012. During the attack 29 Chinese construction workers were abducted
and 9 Sudanese military were captured.
The displaced persons have been arriving in Um Ruwaba – North Kordofan in very
bad condition. There has been no assistance of any kind offered to them by the
authorities. The displaced families are residing with relatives or acquaintances in Um
Ruwaba. Those civilians who have arrived say that many families are still on
