Lakes State sign in South Sudan’s transitional constitution into law

February 26, 2012 (JUBA) –

Thousand of People in Lakes state gather in Lakes state general secretariat general headquarters to witness the swearing in ceremony of Lakes state Governor Chol Tong Mayay today. Governor Tong is had been sworn in as part of South Sudan Transitional Constitution for the Republic of South Sudan. Governor officially signed the Lakes state transitional constitution into law today in front lawmakers and public as well member of cabinet and traditional authority.

Governor Tong told gathering crow of people that his first core value in the new cabinet is to address insecurity through civil population disarmament across the state and to imposed rule of law equally in the state.

Chol said “From now on the state government has outlined the following to maintain peace and security one involve communities in maintenance of security through sensitization, apply customary laws duly passed earlier, ensure effective security measures are taken every time there is need, continue to disarm the civil population in accordance with the general disarmament policy of the republic south Sudan, speed up the apprehension of criminals, urge relevant courts to hasten trial of cases on time and clear backlogs cases”.

Chol urge all chiefs and traditional authorities to be fully engage in peace building and reconciliation process in the state. He also said that transparency and accountability are keys measures to be observe by the state government in services delivery to the people across the state.

“Our Guiding principles shall be transparency, accountability, respects for and protection of human rights, Justice for all and equality before the Law to mention only few we shall also continue our efforts to achieve an effective and productive government, this time on we shall fully implement the public services reform policy framework, Adherence to recruitment, promotion policy and procedures, shall strictly be observed and any deviations shall be met with serious measures”.

He called upon all Lakes state constitution posts holders to declare their respective asset to state anti-corruption commission as require by law.

The UNMISS state coordinator representative; Renuka Chidambaram immediately congratulated the state government for re-swearing in the state governor for the second time into power.

She said that UNMISS new mandate deserved to support good governance in the state – such as civilian disarmament and to combat food security. She also added that development could be achieved through ox-plough which will allow more job opportunities to youth across Lakes state. Renuka affirmed that the United Nation will be here to witness the permanent process of constitution which will be signed into law later on in the future of the Republic of South Sudan.
