By Ngor Arol Garang

March 8, 2012 (JUBA) – The three day conference bringing together different sections and ethnic groups from the Aguok community in Gogrial West county, Warrap state ended on Thursday with the launching of a development campaign.

Aciec Kuot Kuot, the Gogrial West county commissioner, told Sudan Tribune on Thursday from Alek, that they discussed “some of the communal issues, and agreed to work together.”

Kuot, who chaired the conference, said they discussed issues related to the community accepting and adopting new agricultural techniques by training ox-ploughs; making and maintaining peace with the neighbouring communities; and launching development program campaigns.

At the conference they also resolved to call for investors, both national and international, to invest in the area, specifically in agriculture, forestry and fishing as well as setting up private hospitals and building schools.

“Some of the people like brother Kiir Gai have already made their contributions. He has contributed money and 21 boreholes. 61 other people, including myself, have also come forward to contribute. These contributions will be used to construct at least one primary school and primary health unit in Malual Ayuen and other areas,” said Kuot.

He mentioned some of the resolutions had been made to contribute labour as well as finance.

He also explained that the government would complete the necessary funding, once these contributions had been taken into account.

He called upon community leaders to lead by example with regards to the adoption of new agricultural cultivation techniques, using his own farmland as an example – in 2011 it produced 20 bags of sorghum and is on track to improve upon that in 2012, from crops he planted himself.

Joseph Akol Wek, a member of the organising committee told Sudan Tribune he was extremely impressed by the level of attendance and participation at the conference, which even attracted overseas Diaspora.

Wek said some of the conference participants included senior government officials such as presidential advisor on inter-governmental linkage, Tor Deng Mawien, chairperson of international relations at South Sudan National Legislative Assembly, Lual Deng Kuel, and ambassador Bol Wek Agoth.
