Khartoum calling: what next for Sudan?
This event brings together key senior Sudanese politicians in Khartoum to discuss the increasingly urgent questions concerning war and peace with their southern neighbour.
As the deadlock intensifies ‘Khartoum calling’ will explore what has contributed to the current standoff and threat of all-out war between the two Sudans.
The panelists will discuss the recent seizure by South Sudan of the Heglig oil field, unresolved issues of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement – including border demarcation and oil sharing – and the looming humanitarian crisis.
This event offers a unique opportunity to put questions to the panels in both Khartoum (via video conference) and London – and discuss what measures can be taken to re-establish the peace that both sides say they remain committed to, following a war that claimed an estimated two million lives.
‘Khartoum calling’ will take place at the Overseas Development Institute between 10:00-11:30 BST, on April 26 2012 and will be streamed live online. The event will also be made available as a recording shortly afterwards. It follows the recent ‘Juba calling’ event.
