Iran invites Sudan’s Bashir to attend Non-Aligned summit
May 5, 2012 (KHARTOUM) — President Omer Hassan al-Bashir received Saturday an invitation to attend the 16th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which is expected to take place in Teheran next August.
Iranian Vice-President for International Affairs Ali Saeedlou handed the invitation letter to President Bashir from his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Saeedlou told the Sudan’s official news agency (SUNA) that his visit also aims to follow up the joint ventures between the two countries in the areas of infrastructure and higher education before the opening of factories for fruits and dairy products.
Iran’s foreign ministry announced on Tuesday 1 May that the next meeting of the NAM states will be held at the end of August without giving a precise date.
Iran will hold NAM’s presidency for the next three years, an opportunity for Teheran to decrease the impact of international sanctions imposed against the country as result of its nuclear policy.
