Lakes State judge adjourns murder trial of Yirol commissioner’s bodyguards
May 28, 2012 (RUMBEK) – Authorities in Yirol West County of Lakes state have brought two men to trial over a fighting earlier this month between fans of English football teams Manchester United and Arsenal, which killed three people.
The fight, between a two bodyguards of the Yirol West County Commissioner and a football fan occurred at a venue where football was being watched on live screens.
Neither Manchester United or Arsenal were playing on May 2 when the incident occurred. One of the commissioner’s bodyguards and the man are reported to have hurled insults at each other.
Later that evening the two bodyguards allegedly attacked the house of the man with whom they had argued, killing two adults and a young girl.
The presiding judge for three greater Yirol Counties, Mathiang Malek, has adjourned proceedings so as to consult with the Court of Appeal in Lakes State’s capital, Rumbek.
The court hearings have been attended by both the families of the victims and those accused.
Judge Mathiang after hearing both sides decided to delay coming to verdict to an unknown date saying that “he is on consultation with Rumbek Appeal Court”.
“I am still waiting some document from judiciary headquarters in Rumbek such that the final judgment is announced” he said.
