Joyce Konyi, who represents a constituency in Pibor County home to the Murle tribe, was appointed by the Jonglei State Assembly speaker as UDF chairperson in the state on 24 May. This act was considered illegal by other party members.

UDF party member George James Gatluak, told Sudan Tribune on June 2 that his party they have disowned Konyi due to her illegal appointment.

“UDF party has withdrawn confidence in Joyce because she is misusing the name of the party”, said Gatluak.

Gatluak accused Joyce of turning down several calls made by the party members to investigate how her appoint came about.

On Friday 1 June Konyi told the press that the procedures taken by her party members to force her out of the position and party membership are bias and were taken on tribal lines by Nuer members of the UDF.
