Jonglei: ‘Lost Boy’ clinic in Duk County helps villagers

June 6, 2012 (BOR) – Authorities in South Sudan’s Jonglei State say the commissioning of a fully equipped health facility in Duk Payuel, Duk County, has brought health facilities closer to the surrounding communities.

The new clinic is part of the John Dau Foundation aims at providing healthcare in war-torn regions of South Sudan, the leader of the non-governmental organization said in an email to the Sudan Tribune.

The John Dau Foundation is based in the US with offices in South Sudan. The health facility in Duk started providing treatment to patients in 2006. John Dau is one of South Sudan’s famous ‘Lost Boys’ who were displaced during the civil war, many of whom were settled in the United States.

Jonglei State governor Kuol Manyang officially commissioned the unit last week ((May 30th)) after the completion of fully equipped buildings.

Duk County Commissioner Elijah Mocnom said the clinic was a major help to local communities.

“Apart from providing treatment, free of charge, to the communities of Duk, Twic East, Ayod and Uror counties, it is also a sign of unity to these communities,” said Mocnom on Sunday in reactions to reporters at Poktap, Duk County.
