Khartoum: Further violence against protesters in the third day of uprising

On June 18th 2012-Hundreds of university students have taken to the streets for the third day in protest against the deteriorating economic situation in the country and the rapid increase of prices. Riot police as well as civilian dressed militia who are said to be part of the national intelligence security forces have met the protests with excessive violence. Yesterdays’ violence was one that has not been witnessed in many years in its excess and brutality.
Sudan Change Now calls for immediate stop against this illegitimate violence against the protesters as they exercise their rights to peacefully protest and that police forces should perform their duty to protect citizens from such beatings and violence. We call on the support of civil society organizations, especially the media in covering these incidents in order to show the Sudanese public here and abroad of the heinous crimes being committed by the NCP.
Additional protests are also taking place in different areas of Khartoum state and received similar treatment from NCP popular militias?. The deterioration of the economic situation is only one of the many examples of the mismanagement and corruption of the NCP as it approaches its 23rd anniversary of ruling the country on the 30th June 2012. The crisis is caused by NCP regime for which people say it must go and must go now.
