Germany grants 20m dollars in aid for W. Sudan

BERLIN, June 19, 2004 (SUNA) — The German government has affirmed its readiness to resume cooperation with Sudan in the different development fields, and to support the efforts for rehabilitation and realizing stability in Sudan.

In a telephone call with SUNA from Berlin, the Presidential Political Asvisor, Dr. Qotbi Al-Mahdi, said that the German government has declared its assignment to 20 million dollars in support of the voluntary organizations which are operating in the field of humanitarian aid in Darfur.

Germany also pledged more support to Sudan government through the international organizations, said Dr. Al-Mahdi who is currently visiting Germany, accompanied by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Anjelo Beda.

He said that they acquainted the German President, his aides and the Political Advisor of the German Chancellor, a number of ministers, parliamentarians and officials of voluntary organizations with the real situation in Darfur and the government efforts to contain the crisis there.

The Presidential Political Advisor said that he and Beda attended a forum of representatives of Christian humanitarian aid organizations, politicians, academicians and parliamentarians, besides representatives of the European Union, the United States and African countries, and gave a review of the real situation in Darfur and the peace accomplishments for solution of south Sudan problems.
