French state minister for foreign affairs visit Darfur
KHARTOUM, June 21, 2004 (SUNA) — French Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Renaud Muselier started Monday a visit to Darfur to see the situations at the displaced persons camps and meet local authorities and the Sudanese, French and international organizations operating in the field of humanitarian aid.
The French minister is to pay a visit to the displaced persons camp in Morni, where the French Médecin Sans Frontières (MSF) organization operates. He is also to visit Al-Reyad camp in Geneina.
A press release by the French Embassy in Khartoum said Renaud Muselier would visit Al-Fashir, where the African Union’s cease-fire monitoring commission is situated. He would also visit the displaced persons camp at Abu-Shok.
The embassy affirmed that the visit of the French minister comes for boosting the Sudanese-French relations. The visit also comes in affirmation of France’s support to the peace process in Sudan and the importance of finding a solution for Darfur crisis.
Muselier affirmed that the measures adopted by the government on May 20 for facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid and the movement of relief workers is a step in the right direction.
