Italian state minister for foreign affairs visits Sudan

Margherita_Boniver_italy.jpgKHARTOUM, June 21, 2004 (SUNA) — The Italian State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Margherita Boniver, affirmed that her country is working to help Sudan in solving the humanitarian issue at Darfur.

The Italian minister said in a press statement to SUNA upon her arrival at Khartoum airport Monday that she was so happy to be in Khartoum for the fourth time, saying that her current visit focuses on the humanitarian issue of Darfur region.

In this regard, she stressed the importance of the assistance of the International community to Sudan to overcome the humanitarian crisis of Darfur, appealing to the international community to assist Sudan in this connection.

On the relations between Sudan and Italy, she said that the bilateral relations are excellent, especially in the economic domain which witnesses increase in volume of commercial exchange.

She stated that Italy has assigned six million euro as a contribution for ending the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, expressing Italy’s readiness to present more 18 million euros.
