Eritrean opposition welcomes peace efforts in Sudan

KHARTOUM, June 22, 2004 (SUNA) — The Eritrean National Alliance has welcomed the recent peace protocols which were signed between the government of Sudan and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), hoping peace in Sudan will reflect on the stability at the neighbouring countries, specially Eritrea.

Speaking at a press forum organized by the Sudanese Media Center (SMC) Tuesday, the Secretary General of the Eritrean National Alliance, Heroi Tedala Bayro, explained that peace in Sudan will be a good example to be followed by the Eritrea people.

Meanwhile, a statement issued Tuesday by the Central Council of the Eritrean Liberation Front affirmed solidarity with the peoples of Iraq, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.

The statement, issued by the end of the second meeting of the council, congratulated the people of Sudan on the great achievements they scored in the peace domain.

The statement appealed for support of the international community to the struggle of the Eritrean people toward achieving democracy and political pluralism, urging the Eritrean opposition factions to rescue Eritrea and to work to establish the state of institutions.
