Cuba pledges to transfer technology to South Sudan
August 13, 2012 (JUBA) – South Sudan and Cuba step up bilateral cooperation in the area of capacity building and transfer of technology to the new country.
The outgoing Cuban ambassador to South Sudan, Clara Pulido Escandell, discussed with South Sudan leadership the importance of realizing the bilateral cooperation between Juba and Havana, particularly in the health, livestock and agricultural sectors.
In her farewell meeting with South Sudan’s vice president, Riek Machar, on Friday, Escandell told the press that her government was ready to help in eradicating diseases such as malaria in South Sudan using the latest technology.
This, she said, will include building a pharmaceutical plant in South Sudan to produce drugs and fertilizers for agricultural activities.
In capacity building, Cuba was ready to avail human resources such as doctors to help the new country in the health sector, she added.
The Cuban diplomat praised the good friendship her country enjoys with South Sudan and the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
The SPLM has historical relationship with Cuba since the days of the liberation struggle dating back to 1980s. During the independence declaration on 9th July 2011 Cuba sent its Vice President to Juba to attend the occasion.
