Ethiopian Unity council asks US, EU nations for diplomatic recognition

August 17, 2012 (PARIS) – The Newly established Ethiopian National Transitional Council (ENTC) has sought diplomatic recognition from US and European countries.

The civic organization was formed last July following a three-day conference in Dallas, Texas, in the presence of participants and representatives from over 30 cities and countries.

The transitional council aims to mobilize Ethiopians across the word to unite in the movement against what it described was “a standing dictatorship in Ethiopia”.

The unity council ultimately plans the overthrow of the current government of prime minister Meles Zenawi, which has been ruling the horn of Africa nation since a coup in 1991.

The group has sent a communiqué to Carl Bildt, Foreign Affairs Minister of Sweden. The letter was submitted to the Sweden foreign minister by ENTC’s diplomatic representative in Stockholm, Aba Biya Ketema Wara Badi.

ENTC has also sent similar requests to the government of the United States, Australia and other governments of European countries.

“The letter explains ENTC’s mission, and discusses the worsening political, economic and security crises in Ethiopia, as well as the need for the Sweden government to help with a peaceful transition to democracy” ENTC said.
