UN’s Annan to visit Sudan next week
KHARTOUM, June 24, 2004 (SUNA) — United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan is to arrive in Khartoum next Wednesday on a four-day official visit to Sudan during which he will meet a number of government officials and visit Darfur states to get acquainted with the humanitarian situation there.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nageeb Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab welcomed the visit of the UN Secretary General, pointing out that it would culminate the partnership between the government and UN in solving the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and providing development in the war-affected areas and agreeing on the role of the UN in providing the requirements of peace in general.
Abdul-Wahab said in a statement to SUNA that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has worked out preparations for receiving Mr. Annan and a programme for his meetings with the President of the Republic, the First Vice President and a number of ministers besides the visit to Darfur states.
