Sudanese protesters storm Western diplomatic missions over anti-Islam film

September 14, 2012 (KHARTOUM) – Hundreds of Sudanese protesters angered by an anti-Islam film made in the US attacked the premises of two Western diplomatic missions in the capital Khartoum on Friday, setting one of them on fire, eye witnesses told Sudan Tribune.

The protest was called for by hard-line Islamist groups and individuals to demonstrate against “Innocence of Muslims” an amateur internet film mocking the Prophet Mohammed. The film already sparked popular outrage and concomitant protests outside US diplomatic missions across the Middle East.

According to witnesses, hundreds of protesters led mainly by Islamists started demonstrating on Friday in front of the German and British embassies on Al-Baladiya streets in downtown Khartoum. The protesters later set the German embassy on fire. The protest is ongoing.
