Eritrean opposition ELF ends conference in Khartoum
KHARTOUM, June 25, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The sixth general conference of the Eritrean Liberation Front which was held between 19 – 20 June has concluded its meetings after approving, by consensus, its organizational and political programmes.
The conference elected a leadership body constituting 31 main members and four substitutes ones.
The conference made important resolutions including changing the name of the organization from Eritrean Liberation Front (Revolutionary Council) to Eritrean Liberation Front (National Congress).
The leadership body was charged with the duty of studying the process of transforming the organization to a political party and holding dialogue with other parties so as to arrive at an advanced framework for joint work.
The conference congratulated Sudan’s government for signing the peace agreement, while confirming deep-rooted relations between the two countries. It also commended Sanaa Alliance member countries for their efforts which aim at realizing security and stability in the region.
