Workshop on ceasefire concludes session in Nairobi
NAIROBI, June 26, 2004 (SUNA) — A workshop on the arrangements and procedures of the comprehensive ceasefire between the government and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), concluded session in Nairobi Friday with the participation of military and administrative experts from the two parties.
The programme of the workshop included a number of lectures on cease-fire, the similar international experiences, deployment of forces, cease-fire monitoring mechanisms and structures, training, removing mines, protection of civilians and pushing forward political solutions.
The workshop was addressed by the Kenyan Envoy General Lazaras Symbiuo, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mutrif Siddig and Niyal Deng from the SPLM, stressing the importance of the workshop toward the achievement of the final comprehensive cease-fire.
Meanwhile, a concluding session of the peace negotiations between the two parties is due to begin in Naivasha Saturday to focus on a comprehensive cease-fire agreement and the transitional arrangements. The session is expected to last till the third week of July.
