South Sudan Interior Ministry condemns murder of political commentator

REPUBLIC OF SOUTH SUDAN
MINISTRY OF INTERIOR

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF INTERIOR

December 07/2012

(Juba, 07/12/2012) – While the Ministry of Interior is engaged in implementing its policy of transforming the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) into professional police, there are trends by wrong elements to sabotage these efforts. Of recent, a number of citizens and foreigners living in the Republic of South Sudan have been killed by criminals in cold blood; among them was the late Diing Chan Awol, known as Isiah Abraham.

The Ministry of Interior Condemns these killing in the strongest terms and presents its sincere condolence to the families of the deceased; particularly the family of late Isiah Abraham.

In our continuous efforts to combat crimes, the Ministry Of Interior has deployed the best of its CID personnel to pursue the culprits and bring them to justice. In fact some of those who committed murder earlier, have been arrested and are now being investigated after which they will be brought before the court of law.

The Government of the Republic of South Sudan will not condone arbitrary arrest and killings of innocent people. Therefore, efforts are being made to build capacity of all the law enforcement organs under the Ministry of Interior and to coordinate efforts with other security organs to ensure that there is security and stability in the country.

A lot of efforts are also being exerted to transform the Police Service and build its capacity to provide efficient services to the citizens of the Republic of South Sudan as well as foreigner living in it. The Ministry of Interior will continue to pursue all those trying to destabilize the country and bring them to justice.

I would like to assure the people of the Republic of South Sudan that the Ministry of Interior is committed to its mandate of providing and maintaining security in the Republic of South Sudan.

Regard,

Gen Alison Monani Magaya
Minister of Interior
Republic of South Sudan
