Sudanese fact-finding committee on Darfur meets EU envoys

KHARTOUM, June 29, 2004 (SUNA) — The Fact-Finding Committee on allegations of human rights violations in Darfur held here Tuesday a meeting with the ambassadors of the countries of the European Union in Sudan.

Chairman of the Committee Dafa’alla Al-Haj Yousuf told SUNA that the EU ambassadors got acquainted with the decision of the Committee formulation, its jurisdictions and the guarantee of its impartiality and independence, pointing out that it works in accordance with the Investigation Committees Act for 1954.

He said that the Committee is now in the stage of investigation and data collection, explaining that it would listen to all concerned parties.

He answered the ambassadors’ questions.

Ambassador of Germany praised in a statement to SUNA setting up of the Committee considering it one of the most important decisions made by the government on Darfur.

Member of the committee Fatima Abdul-Mahmoud lauded the efforts that have been exerted by the EU and its cooperation with the national organizations in Darfur to realize peace in Darfur.

She further appreciated the spirit of readiness shown up by the intellectuals of Darfur at the different universities to contribute to solving the crisis, hailing the cooperation given to the Committee from the parliamentarians of Darfur.
