Vice President of the European Parliament calls for more dialogue with Sudanese National Assembly

Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim El Tahir, Speaker of the National Assembly received at his office in Omdurman the visiting Vice president of the European Parliament Mr. Gianni Pitella. On the Sudanese side, the meeting was attended Dr. Amin El Hassan Director of Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Mahdi Ibrahim and other members of the Sudanese Parliament and the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Parliament.
Mr. Gianni Pittella informed that the purpose of his visit to Sudan is to listen and discuss with the Sudanese officials about the possible ways to improve the Euro-Sudanese relations. He confirmed that the European Union is interested in good relations with Sudan.
Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim El Tahir speaker of the Parliament explained that Sudan is committed to work for peace with its neighbour South Sudan and to achieve peace and reconciliation in Darfur, South Kordofan and the Blue Nile State. The Speaker of the Parliament stressed on the importance of implementing the security and other cooperation agreements in Sudan and called for more balanced development aid towards the Sudan.
The Vice President of the European Parliament agreed on the importance of exchange of visits between the Sudanese and European Parliaments to be well informed about the developments in both Sudan and European Union. Mr. Gianni Pittella added that exchange of experience and documents between the European Parliament and Sudan will contribute to strengthening democracy and foreign investment in Sudan.
Vice President of European Parliament pledges to inform European Parliament about developments and concerns of Sudan
Mr. Gianni Pitella stated that he will inform the European Parliament President and members about the developments and concerns of the Sudan. He made his statements after a meeting at the Republican Palace with the 1st Vice president of the Sudan Mr. Ali Osman Taha who briefed the European visitor about the government efforts to establish peace and development in Sudan.
Mr. Gianni Pittella said that the visit to Sudan was very informative and thanked the Sudanese officials and people for their hospitability and determination and hopes for a strong Euro – Sudanese relations. He added that the European Union is concerned about the implementation of the cooperation Agreements with South Sudan and called for more efforts and will to build peace.
Mr. Ali Osman Taha, 1st Vice President said that continued and open dialogue at all levels is important between the European Union and Sudan to improve relations.
Vice President of the European Parliament discuss the Euro- Sudanese Relations
Mr. Ali Karti, Minister of Foreign Affairs received at his office Mr. Gianni Pittella, the Vice president of the European Parliament. Mr. Ali Karti welcomed the high level visit and stated that it is an important opportunity for the European Union and Sudan to address the bilateral issues and concerns to improve the relations.
The Vice President of the Parliament Mr. Gianni Pittella explained the importance and growing role of the European Parliament in foreign policy and said that this visit will allow him to inform the European Parliament President and members about the situation in Sudan stressing the geopolitical importance of Sudan and its role in Africa and to peace in the horn of Africa.
Mr. Ali Karti called in the meeting for more dialogue with the European Union, more development support to Sudan confirming Sudan’s commitment and implementation to the implementation of peace agreements.
