The SPLM-N is Ready for a Humanitarian Cessation of Hostilities

An SPLM-N delegation consisting of the SPLM-N Chairperson, the Deputy Chairperson, the Secretary General and the Humanitarian Wing arrived in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on December 14th, by invitation from the AUHIP, immediately after the meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Counsel, which called on the Sudan government and the SPLM-N to work for an immediate humanitarian cessation of hostilities. The delegation of the SPLM-N met with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Haile Mariam Desalegne, the AUHIP with former President Thabo Mbeki, the American Special Envoy Princeton Lyman, the European Special Envoy Ambassador Roselind, and the Ambassadors representing the African Union Peace and Security Council in Addis Ababa. The SPLM-N expressed its readiness and unwavering commitment for an immediate humanitarian cessation of hostilities and that the priorities number 1, 2 and 3 for the SPLM-N are to address the humanitarian situation and the protection of civilians, and it is a SPLM-N early proposal for a cessation of hostilities on humanitarian grounds, as early as last year, and that will create a healthy environment to address other issues as well as helping to put an effective buffer zone between the Republic of Sudan and Republic of South Sudan given the fact that the SPLM-N controls more than 40% of the international border between the two countries. In a nutshell, we are fully ready for a humanitarian cessation of hostilities.
