Sudanese FM meets his Libyan counterpart

KHARTOUM, June 30, 2004 (SUNA) — Foreign Minister Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail Wednesday met with the visiting Secretary of the Libyan People’s Committee for External Relations, Abdul-Rahman Shalgam, and discussed progress of the bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The meeting also reviewed the situation in Darfur, where Dr. Ismail affirmed Sudan government keenness on enhancement of the situation in Darfur. Dr. Ismail has acquainted the Libyan official with the flow of and humanitarian aid, and the improvement which was achieved in this regard.

He asserted the government keenness to achieve a political settlement for Darfur problem through convocation of a national comprehensive conference on Darfur.

Meanwhile, the Libyan official affirmed the concern of Libya with realization of stability in Darfur, based on the distinguished relations between the two countries.

Dr. Ismail and Shalgam also deliberated about issues that would be discussed in the coming African summit and its ministerial council’s meeting in Addis Ababa.

They agreed on the importance of continuous consultations and coordination of stances between the two states.
