Jonglei governor appoints three new commissioners
March 11, 2013 (BOR) – The governor of South Sudan’s Jonglei state, Kuol Manyang has appointed three new county commissioners, replacing those he sacked last week.
Manyang, in a decree issued on 4 March, relieved the commissioners of Akobo, Fangak and Nyirol counties, but gave no reasons for taking the impromptu decision.
On Saturday, however, the governor appointed John Matien Kuol as the new commissioner of Fangak County. Kuol, who previously chaired the state public service commission, replaces James Maluit Ruach.
Manyang also appointed Koung Rambang Chol and Wany Juet Jock, as new commissioners of Akobo and Nyirol counties respectively, replacing Goi Jooyul Yoal and Isaac Kuach Duoth.
Appointed soon after the 2010 general elections, the three commissioners have had to deal with a series of attacks in their counties, starting with George Athor’s rebellion in 2010 and 2011, as well as from forces loyal to General Tanginya and David Yauyau’s current rebellion.
