Khartoum directs oil companies to export South Sudan’s oil production

March 21, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan has officially directed oil companies to take the necessary measures allowing the exportation of the South Sudanese oil.

The decision, which is signed by Sudanese oil minister Awad Al-Jaz, includes oil processing, transportation through the pipelines and its exportation from Port Sudan on the Red Sea.

In Juba, South Sudanese oil minister Stephen Dhieu Dau confirmed the news saying that they have received official notification from the Sudanese government, ordering oil companies to start preparation to receive the crude oil.

Sudan and South Sudan on 12 March reiterated their commitment to implement all agreements they signed on 27 September 2012 including the exportation of South Sudan production of oil which is crucial for the new country .

On 8 March, delegates from the two countries at the level of the Joint Political and Military Mechanism (JPSM) agreed to implement the security arrangements and the buffer zone.

On 19 March after the verification of the effective withdrawal of the two armies from the disputed areas, the two sides agreed to form a committee to deal with the concerns and complaints on the support and harbouring of rebel groups.

The last agreement will pave the way to strengthen bilateral relations on all fields, said the Sudanese defence minister Abdel-Rahim Hussein to show how much the rebel issue is important for his government.
