Sudanese-German parliamentary talks held

KHARTOUM, July 4, 2004 (SUNA) — Speaker of National Assembly, Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, affirmed strength of relations linking Sudan and the Federal Republic of Germany, stressing the necessity of boosting them further to serve the interests of the peoples of the two countries.

This came when Al-Tahir received at his office Sunday a delegation from the German parliament (Bundestag), describing the Sudanese-German relations as deeply-rooted and multi-sided, covering political and economic fields, affirming that the visit would avail the delegation the opportunity to get acquainted with the peace process and the humanitarian situations in Darfur.

Meanwhile, the German and Sudanese sides held a session of joint parliamentary talks. The talks focused on the progress of the bilateral relations, the peace process in Sudan, the situations in Darfur as well as the role that can be played by Germany in supporting the peace process and provision of human train assistance to the affected people in Darfur.

In this regard, the two sides stressed the importance of doubling support of the international community to the affected people in Darfur.

The two sides further reviewed the agreement signed between the government and the UN in the domains of security and humanitarian assistance to the affected people in Darfur.
