Sudan’s NCP passes death sentences against Darfur POWs

By Mahmoud A. Suleiman

March 29, 2013 – This article comes on the backdrop of the news reported that the kangaroo court of the NCP regime has issued death sentences on seven Prisoners of War (POWs) belonging to the rebel group Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on Thursday 28th March 2013. The regime’s National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) transferred them to the notorious ‘Shala Prison’ in the outskirts of El-Fasher. The names of the chivalrous POWs against whom the death sentences passed are:
1 – Abu al-Gasim Abdullah earlier
2 – Hassan Isaac Abdullah
3 – Abdullah Abbaker Yahiya
4 – Ibrahim Sharif Giddo
5 – Adam Tom Tie
6 – Abdel Razig Daoud Abdel Sayed
7 – Sadiq Abbaker Yahiya

The above named POWS fell captive in the ‘Railway Battle’ that took place between Nyala and Daein in 2010. Moreover, the JEM sources indicated that the judge who tried its current seven captives is the same judge who played the dirty role of executioner of the POWs of the battle of Omdurman, codenamed as “Operation Long Arm (OLA) in May 2008. The ‘judge’ referred is considered primarily responsible for the fate of POWs along with his deliberate breaching of international humanitarian law.

The people of Sudan in Darfur appeal to the Human Rights Organizations to stand firm in support of the POWs and against the violations of international laws and conventions that are committed in the Sudan under the genocidal government of the National Congress Party (NCP) led by the ICC indicted fugitive Omer Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir.

The Judgment of such a court is a blatant denial of Justice. It is not surprising that as such sentences issued from a regime that previously committed the heinous crimes and mortal sins of genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. It is a travesty and slander of justice, to say the least.

Sudan Justice and Equality Movement has strongly condemned the arbitrary sentences against its prisoners of war. JEM considers the provisions of the Inquisition courts that belong to the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) have nothing to do with justice. These sentences are politically motivated, driven by hatred and continuation of the genocidal spree of the regime for the people of Sudan. Furthermore, JEM reserves the right to defend itself and individuals and groups people in its membership. Accordingly, JEM strongly deplores and warns the NCP genocidal regime of the consequences of use of POWs dossier to carry out the death sentences on them. Swift retribution would be the response.
