Sudan fact-finding committee on Darfur contacts rebels

KHARTOUM, July 05, 2004 (SUNA) — The Secretariat of the Fact-Finding Committee on allegations on human rights violations committed by the armed groups in Darfur states has made contacts with the parties to the conflict abroad to prepare for a meeting with them to hear their points of view.

The Chairman of the Committee, Dafallah Al-Haj Yousif, said they wrote a letter to the said parties and attached to it a copy of the Investigation Committees Act, 1954 and the decree forming the committee.

Meanwhile, the fact-finding committee continued its meetings with leaderships of Darfur at the state and federal levels. The committee met Sunday with a delegation of Kulbos and would meet on Wednesday a delegation representing the citizens of Kutum.

The committee would pay a visit to Darfur in the second week of current July.

The committee has held eight continuous meetings since its formation and met with scores of representatives of Darfur and that of the civil society there as well as receiving many reports from the concerned ministries, civil society organizations and the international organizations.
