Highway connecting Sudan and South Sudan through South Kordofan, opening soon
April 12, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – Authorities in South Kordofan’s locality of Talodi revealed that coordination and arrangements with South Sudan are taking place to open “Talodi – Alleri – Fariang” highway connecting Sudan and South Sudan.
In September of last year, both Sudan and South Sudan signed a series of cooperation agreements, which covered oil, citizenship rights, security issues, banking, border trade among others.
According the signed deals, the two countries agreed to open 10 crossing points along the 2200km border despite the fact that they are still discussing the fate of some disputed areas between the two countries.
Earlier this month, delegations from Sudan and south Sudan started meetings in Khartoum to operationalise crossing points on the joint border between the two countries.
Talodi locality mayor, Ali Dafalla, said that the highway represents a lifeline which links the two countries and facilitates trade as well as peoples’ movement, pointing out that the road will have a positive impact on resuming social and economic relations between the two peoples.
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) is fighting since more than a year the Sudan SPLM-N in South Kordofan where the rebels are mainly present in southern and eastern parts of the troubled state.
