Sudan’s PCP denies connections to SRF’s attack on Um Rawaba
April 29, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – The opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) leading figure, Ibrahim Al-Sanossi, has dismissed allegations linking him to the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) weekend attack on Um Rawaba town in North Kordofan state.
Al-Sanossi, who visited Um Rawaba a week before the attack, denied in a statement to Al-Khartoum daily, any involvement in the assault stressing that he did not hold any meetings with political leaders during his stay there.
“I went to Um Rawaba to attend a wedding of a daughter of a fellow veteran in the Islamic Movement” he said.
In a related issue, the PCP reused to condemn the SRF attack on Um Rawaba and instead blamed the government for the events.
“We don’t condemn the SRF because war was imposed upon them by the government”, the party’s political officer Kamal Omer said.
Omer said that the party considers the attack a natural consequence for the policies of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), stressing their support to peaceful solutions for Sudan’s problems.
The PCP official further lambasted the governor of North Kordofan, describing him as “Failed man”, holding him responsible for the attack on Um Rawaba.
He also reiterated the opposition’s call for a transitional government describing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution 2046 of last year as a repetition of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) which has yet to bring peace to Sudan.
The PCP further underscored the need for new constitutional arrangements and called for a revolution to overthrow the regime.
