Imposition of sanctions on Sudanese individuals does it solve Darfur crisis, SUNA

KHARTOUM, July 07, 2004 (SUNA) — The United States of America strives to impose Security Council’s sanctions against Sudanese individuals whom it held responsible for what US believes violations of human rights in Darfur.

But it seem that USA focuses on one side only and ignores the other, believing that the sanctions against Sudan will be imposed within days or weeks and not months “if Darfur issue is not solved.”

The whole world knows that USA is violating human rights widely in Iraq and Afghanistan, and supports violations of human rights in the Palestinian occupied lands.

In fact, the attempt to push ahead imposition of Security Council’s sanctions against this or that person in Sudan and preventing any personal from traveling will not solve the crisis of Darfur and of course it is not needed by the people of Sudan.

As an international body responsible for observing humanitarian affairs and defending the peoples around the globe, it is very necessary for the United Nations to assume its role in full regarding the issue of Darfur.

Such a role must meet the aspirations of the people of Sudan and should not be set according to the agenda and strategies of the United States.

The people of Sudan wants the UN to extend urgent relief materials, adopt measures to return displaced persons to their homes, helping Sudanese parties to sit at the negotiation table to put an end to the crisis and to help implementing the cease-fire agreement as well as condemning any violation by any party.

The selective denunciation of this or that individual would never help solving the problem of Darfur. Efforts must be concentrated on ways to help the Sudanese people bringing the crisis to an end through negotiations.
