Rumbek prison boss accused of stealing pension funds
June 1, 2013 (RUMBEK) – The director of Lakes state’s prison services, brigadier Bol Ador Ader, has been accused of misappropriating prison pension funds, according to a letter from staff obtained by Sudan Tribune.
An prison official who requested anonymity said on Saturday that what had occurred was a “gross” case of “corruption and economic suicide”.
Prison staff submitted a letter to Lakes state anti-corruption commission last year but had received no reply, he said, leading to the decision to leak the letter to the press.
The staff allege that Ader has misappropriated 1,050,196 South Sudanese Pounds leaving only a balance of 6,567 SSP. The staff also accuse Ader of taking other funds his own personal gain, amounting to a total of 2,866,786 SSP.
Sudan Tribune has obtained letters from South Sudan’s minister of interior asking entire all top officials to implement the government’s anti-corruption effort. Mibister Alison Magaya’s letter dated October 7, 2011 said that “South Sudan President had renewed a zero-tolerance corruption, good governance and accountability policies.”
Lakes state’s prison official, however, say that their prison director has broken the directive.
The prison official said that they had submitted “another compliant to Lakes state military caretaker governor Maj-Gen Matur Chut Dhuol but [the] Governor downplayed our complaint.”
