Analysis of the corruption cases in South Sudan and the order of President Kiir

By Peter Gai Manyuon

When I read that South Sudan‘s President Salva Kiir Mayardit that has suspended two federal Ministers from their duties and lifted their immunities to be investigated for a corruption, it motivated me and inspired me as a person. In a subsequent order Kiir formed an investigation committee headed by the anti-corruption chairperson, John Gatwech Lul, to investigate the two ministers and report the findings to the president within six days.

And more so the terms of reference for the investigation that will include establishing who authorized the transfer of the money and whether there was a resolution from the cabinets approving the alleged purchase of anti-fire safes.

And furthermore the President said, the committee will also investigate whether there was a contract approved and signed by the government and whether such alleged anti-fire safes were brought into the country as well as the whereabouts of the money, among others.

The President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit might be wise this time for suspending the two Ministers because of the Corruptions issues. Since last year when the issue of the 75 Corrupt Officials who took 4. Millions dollars from the government of the South Sudan come to public notice, President Kiir was so salient even people begin to doubt his Leadership in the country, because he did not took it very serious at that very time and some people like me begin to blame the President of not having being persecuted the seventy five Corrupt officials that have brought shame to the entire Communities of South Sudanese.

Since the inception of the South Sudan as the Nation, from Dr Late Garang leadership up to the President Kiir leadership, nothing have been reported about the officials who misuse public funds but on Tuesday evening, I was really impressed and beginning thinking of the new transformation which is coming to my country South Sudan, because other are viewing the President decision as miracle that have never happened in the history but I concluded it that the President advisors might have advice Kiir correctly this time or the God almighty might have touched their hearts to do the needful this time for the Nation.

For Kiir to give that order, he might have analysed it properly and there are a lots of evidences or the case is too much that , need exposures for other people to see that, President is doing his mandate as the head of the State in that sense.

Realistically and logically, the issue of the corruptions in South Sudan is becoming the way of living among the politicians who are ruling this new nation because every one of them want to become rich within the shortest period of time, and what make it worse is that, they are looting publics funds which is not their own money. There is a saying which says, “You cannot blame the mirror when your face is distorted” because when you have taken publics funds, you cannot blame the President of South Sudan of having given an order of suspending the two serious corrupts officials , I think Mr Kosti the Minister of Finance and Mr Deng Alor Kuol, should not say anything because it is now very clear that, Kiir have seen them keenly and now it us come to the public attention , whereby it will be the people to determine the prosecution of these two gentlemen.

Having seen the corruptions cases in South Sudan, I have the following tips that might help President Kiir to have the fantastic Cabinets in his Leadership.

First, the President of the Republic of South Sudan should dismiss the two Ministers immediately before serious investigation because they might use other means to block the process, they might use money to bridge or the anti-corruption Commission because it seem their don’t do their mandate as per the constitution of the Republic of South Sudan has given the commission mandate to prosecute and reports cases of corruption

Secondly the President of South Sudan can also if not dismissing those culprits, he can order security agents to block the accounts of these two gentlemen because they might begin transferring money to other people private accounts/families account any time that is why it good for the government especially the President to give an order within this week so that, things move well

Thirdly President Kiir should give an order to arrest these two Gentlemen, so that that they don’t have access to any communications outside, and also they should be guards by the security agents in the Prison or at their homes places in this Nation to avoid issues running to abroad because they might decide to run, you never know my dear Country men and women

Fourthly President Kiir and his Cabinets should not reverse the decision again of favoring these two gentlemen who have given the Republic of South Sudan shame in this early context, they should be relieves from their duties and go back home and dig with their families because accommodating these guys against will give an insults to our President and the South Sudanese at large.

Lastly our beloved President Kiir Mayardit, should also set up a team of security agents separately to oversee the investigating that is going to be carry out by the anti-Corruption Commission because most of the South Sudanese have lost hope in the Anti-Corruption Commission because they don’t do their mandate as an Institution that is dealing with the reporting of corruption cases and prosecution.

In conclusion, since the separation of the South Sudanese from the North Sudanese, the issue of taking people properties has become the way of living in this Great Nation known by the name Republic of South Sudan and more so that Country is in Volatile Stage, right now people minds are focusing on David Yau Yau issue but now the issue of Corruptions. How can we move ahead as the people of South Sudan?
