Sudanese militia kidnaps 32 children in Darfur

KHARTOUM, July 10, 2004 (MENA) — A militia in Sudan’s western restive region of Darfur kidnapped Saturday [10 July] 32 children, Sudanese sources said.

Tora Bora militia is also blamed for setting ablaze several villages, the sources added.

The United States warned Sudan anew on Thursday of a UN Security Council action if it failed to live up to its pledges on war-torn Darfur.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell threatened Sudan on June 29 with an unspecified UN Security Council action if it failed to crack down on Arab militias in Darfur.

The threat was coupled with a similar one from UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who said that his visit to Darfur could be followed by international sanctions “depending on what we see on the ground”.
