The forum was formed after a three-day workshop organised by the National Youth Dialogue Forum (NYDF) in collaboration with South Sudan Youth Participation Agency (SSYPA).

Madit Malek, the NYDF chairman said the formation of the forum sets a new chapter in future partnership with the youth fraternity in Jonglei.

He stressed the importance of youth participation in the country’s constitutional review process, saying any attempt to ignore interest of young people would render the document incomplete.

Majority of youth, Sudan Tribune interviewed, demanded equal participation at all levels of government as a constitutional right.

Samuel Okomi, the director of SSYPA described the dialogue as a constructive platform for peaceful co-existence among the youth, who were drawn from all the counties of the state.

Meanwhile, the newly formed steering committee elected Simon Ochala as its chairperson and Nyamiri Paul as his deputy.

The new chairperson, in his remarks, urged youth to promote the culture of unity and tolerance so as to promote peaceful co-existence in the country’s largest state.

The workshop, organised under the auspices of Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights, also tackled the root causes of conflict in Jonglei and how youth can play active roles in resolving them.
