AMREF, EABL partner to improve Juba hygiene

August 10, 2013 (JUBA) – East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has donated $50,000 to help African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) and Juba County to provide citizens with safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

amref1.jpgThe initiative, AMREF said in a press release, will mainly benefit those living in Mangala payam, Central Equatoria state.

Up to 6,000 people are expected benefit from the three-month project, which will involve the construction of a borehole, ventilated improved pit latrine and sanitation tool kits.

Regular community mobilization, training of water committees and sensitization of community member on sanitation and hygiene aspects, will also form part of the project.

The project was initiated after it emerged that a large number of those living along the River Nile relied on unsafe water, with no borehole. The area also lacked latrines, prompting citizens to openly defecate in nearby bushes, putting lives at risk.
