Commissioner calls on Torit community to handover murder suspects

August 18, 2013 (TORIT) – Torit county commissioner German Charles Ojok has appealed to the Iloli boma (district) community in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria state to handover three youths who are suspected to have murdered a foreign trader along the Hiyala-Logorun highway last week.

The unidentified trader was shot in the head and stripped of his clothes.

Commissioner Ojok said after the murder he went to the scene of the crime with the police and soldiers from the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA).

Ojok said the Hiyala community have acknowledged that the youth suspected to have been involved in the murder come from the area but a local chief said the suspects have since gone missing from the village and their whereabouts are unknown.

A separate group of youth have been set up in the community to track the suspects and hand them over to the government for them to be charged in the courts of law in Torit.

Elders and youth from the community have asked for more time to allow them to trace the suspects.

The commissioner urged residents of the boma to search for the suspects in the mountains, where some say they could be hiding to evade arrest.
