Lakes state traffic officers receive road safety training

August 24, 2013 (RUMBEK) – Over 20 Police personnel from the eight counties of South Sudan’s Lakes state have completed three weeks of road safety training organised by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The training, covering basic road safety regulation, will improve the work of local traffic police officers in the region, organisers said.

Traffic accident investigations, traffic management and implementation of the South Sudan Traffic Act, were some of the key areas intensively covered during the three-week training period.

Mayal Apioth Atem, Lakes state traffic police director, said the training would improve officers’ work as well as investigation in to the rampant accident-related cases.

“This training is very important and it will improve our investigation department and road safety will be monitored through this training”, he said at the closing of the training Friday.

Traffic officers in the counties will apply South Sudan Police Traffic Act for any case related to this road accident, Atem assured.

The UNMISS department in Rumbek, the Lakes state capital organised the three-weeks training.
