Tremor felt by employees at Sudan news agency building
September 18, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – Employees at Sudan official News Agency (SUNA) reported that they felt a mild tremor at noon on Wednesday in two of the eight floors of the building on the east side.
Sudan’s General Authority for Geological Research (SGAGR) confirmed that its seismic stations recorded an earthquake with a 5.9 magnitude at 12:04 pm.
The epicenter was in the Red Sea outside the territorial boundaries of Sudan, SGAGR said adding that this was corroborated by data from global monitoring sites.
The website earthquake-report.com reported the occurrence of the tremor but recorded it at a magnitude of 4.2.
The SGAGR director Yusuf al-Samani said in a statement that the epicenter was in the northern border of Eritrea with the Red Sea.
He said that SUNA building specifically felt the tremor because of the depth of its foundation.
