Jonglei: Man killed “accidentally” in Bor shooting

September 25, 2013 (JUBA) – A man was killed on Tuesday night in Bor town, the capital of Jonglei state, in what officials have described as an accident.

Philip Thon Nyok, a member of parliament representing Bor town in the Jonglei state legislative assembly says nine armed men laid an ambush to deter suspected “criminals” who they believed were operating in the area.

However, by accident they killed an “innocent” man who was passing through the area.

Nyok said that the “police will determine the motive” behind the death.

The incident occurred in Hai Machuor, a suburb of Bor town, where a man was killed last week and his two daughters abducted. In 2009, a couple was killed and their son abducted from the same area.

Nyok said that the repeated killings and abductions in the area had prompted the local residents to act as the police did not always have the resources to keep the area secure.

The area has little infrastructure as people have built house in the countryside around the outskirts of Bor town.

NYIROL KILLING

Elsewhere in Jonglei state, four died in Nyirol West following a revenge attack among local community, officials say.

Khor Houw, a member of Jonglei state legislative assembly representing Nyirol west, south and northeast said the incident occurred on Saturday.

“The suspects are now arrested and blood compensation is done by traditional leaders,” Houw said.

The cause of fighting, he said, dated back to 2002 when locals clashed during a community meeting over “administrative issues.”
